Anatomy of the Shoe
Platform- the part of the shoe the dancer stands on when en pointe
Leather Sole/Shank- the stiff inner sole that supports the arch
Pleats- the area between the shank and the platform that helps support the toes
Vamp- the part of the shoe that covers the top of your toes
Drawstring- string that tightens to fit the shoe on the foot better
Binding- holds the shoe together and the fabric channel the drawstring runs through
Ribbons- holds the shoe onto the foot by tying it to the lower ankles
Throat- the opening of the shoe near the toes
Elastic- sewn at the throat of the shoe to longen the vamp
Box(Block)- the hard "toe cup" that confines the toes
